Dr James Ng is a triple fellowship-trained specialist with expertise across three areas: vitreoretinal surgery and medical retinal disease, ocular inflammatory disease (uveitis), and complex cataract surgery. He also performs refractive eye procedures to a high standard, including TransPRK, SMILE Pro, and Implantable Collamer Lens (ICL) implantation.
All three fellowships were completed at leading overseas tertiary eye hospitals. At Bristol Eye Hospital, he trained under Professor Andrew Dick — a pioneer in uveitis research and an accomplished vitreoretinal surgeon. At Oxford Eye Hospital, he was a fellow under Professor Rob MacLaren, who is renowned internationally for his work in retinal genetics and gene therapy. There, he also trained alongside Mr CK Patel, one of the UK’s foremost paediatric vitreoretinal specialists, and Mr Paul Rosen, a high-volume cataract and refractive surgeon and former President of the ESCRS (European Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons).
Dr James subsequently attained the highly competitive position of Senior Fellow in Vitreoretinal Surgery at Moorfields Eye Hospital, consistently ranked among the world’s top eye hospitals.
Dr James completed his undergraduate medical training at St Bartholomew’s and The Royal London School of Medicine and Dentistry, University of London, graduating with an MBBS. He also holds a BSc (Hons) in the History of Medicine from the Wellcome Institute, London. His specialist ophthalmology training was undertaken at Tan Tock Seng Hospital in Singapore, where he also attained Fellowship of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists (FRCOphth).
